Let me clarify something very important about savannah cats for you. Savannahs are not about generations (number/filial) but what is important is QUALITY! If you see one bad looking savannah- that’s NOT because generation is lower- its simply poor quality of breeding (breeder used not best pairing or it was maybe experimental/accident pairing (can be the case).
Let me explain- them awful looking savannahs you see that you think looking “no different from a Bengal cat” or “hard to say” or “hard to say if savannah at all” or “looking like a simple neighbours moggie” or “size is smaller-because of lower generation” —if you see a savannah cat that is looking like a very low generation or doesn’t look like savannah to you- it is NOT because the generation is very low (f7-f9 like I hear a lot people guessing looking at cats like that)— in reality its just BAD QUALITY of savannah cat and nothing else! So next time you will see a post with a question “guess generation?” or “We bought a cat and think it might be savannah” – before commenting: hmmm I think it might be something like F6-F8 savannah…just remember words of experienced breeder and keep in mind that 1. It can be any generation just a low/poor quality one. 2. It can be just a spotted moggie or a Bengal or both (mix breed).
People or even breeders with a lack of knowledge think that bad looking savannah must be just a lower generation one- that is why looking like one of my neighbours cats or exactly like the one my grandmother had in the village —the truth is that the QUALITY is the only one criteria that will make a difference! And same with the size! Generation has nothing to do with the size! (Unless F1-F2) but F3-F9 are all sort of similar size, and more than that- I personally had the smallest savannah cat ever and she was F3, F3 males might be on a larger side or might be not (it is hard to tell or predict) and there is absolutely no difference between F4 and lets say F7-F9 size wise as well as the look (I promise to you-No difference at all!!)
Want size? Go Maine Coon. In Savannahs, only F1–F2 males are typically large.
We love savannah cats not for their size, but for their amazing personalities, for their grace and beauty and if happens that we’re lucky with the size- good, if not it is doesn’t matter as savannah cats are simply incredible no matter on their size! But if people will stop asking for generations -breeders will pay more attention to the quality and we will have a huge step forward with improvement of the breed.
